The Deliblat sands in Serbia were engulfed by fire

For more than two weeks, the country's largest sand reserve, the Deliblat Sands, has been on fire in Serbia. This was reported to Izvestia by correspondent Sergey Petrov on August 20.

"The ground is still hot underfoot. Everything continues to smolder and because of the wind it may go further again," he said.

According to local beekeeper Dusan Mraovich, the fire was already approaching the areas where the apiaries are located. Helicopters are used to extinguish fires.

A few hours ago, a Russian Il-76 of the Ministry of Emergency Situations arrived in Serbia. The plane delivered an operational group to the city of Nis to assist in fighting wildfires.

"We are ready to work and we will do everything like in the good old days. This is not the first time Nish has welcomed us, and every time it is a warm welcome with open arms. We came here as if we were at home," said Andrey Vislov, the captain of the aircraft of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations.

Beekeeper Dusan Mraovich said that the flames were getting close to the locations of the apiaries. To cope with fires, helicopter equipment is involved in the work.

An IL‑76 aircraft of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations flew to Serbia a few hours ago. It arrived in the city of Nis and delivered specialists there to help eliminate wildfires.
