An unmanned taxi will hit the streets of Tyumen in 3-5 years

An unmanned taxi will start cruising the streets of Tyumen in the next 3-5 years. The road network already allows such vehicles to be launched, said Alexey Smirnov, an expert in transport consulting.

"The development of unmanned vehicles in Tyumen is no longer the most long—term issue," said the founder of InnovaTransport in an interview with <url> news agency.

As an example, the specialist cited unmanned delivery by robots, which is already being launched and will soon become more widespread.

According to Smirnov, launching a taxi will not require large-scale measures from local authorities: it is only necessary to digitize the existing infrastructure. That is, to transmit information about the operation of traffic lights to operators of unmanned vehicles so that cars take them into account when planning a route.

Earlier, Izvestia wrote that highly automated vehicles (VATS) could appear on all Russian highways and tramways in two years. At the same time, for the widespread use of unmanned vehicles in cargo transportation, it is necessary to resolve a number of significant issues.
