The court found the testimony of blogger Lercek to be false
The Gagarin Court of Moscow found the testimony of blogger Valeria Chekalina (Lerchek), who was previously sentenced to five years of probation in the case of the withdrawal of more than 250 million rubles to the UAE, to be unreliable. This became known on August 18 from the court materials available to Izvestia.
The document states that the blogger provided false information in order to distort the actual circumstances of the crime.
"The testimony is refuted by the evidence examined at the court session and given by the defendant Chekalina in order to distort the actual circumstances of the crime committed," the materials specify.
The court found that Chekalina acted consciously as part of a stable group. At sentencing, her statements were regarded as false, as she did not admit her guilt in making currency transactions using forged documents.
The criminal case against Chekalina was resumed on July 24. Lercek was sentenced to five years of probation and ordered to pay a fine of 765 million rubles. At the same time, the state prosecution remained dissatisfied with the verdict. It was clarified that in the appeal submission it would insist on a tougher punishment.
Later, on August 12, Lercek's defense asked for her sentence to be overturned by the Gagarin Court in Moscow. Human rights activists referred to the alleged absence of corpus delicti in the actions of the client.
