Politico found out about Burnham's correspondence with a fake Trump adviser

British Prime Minister Andy Burnham corresponded with a man posing as one of [US President] Donald Trump's closest advisers. This was reported by the Politico newspaper on August 17.

"According to officials, the new prime minister communicated with a man posing as the head of the White House administration, Susie Wiles, after which he suspected that the contact was illegitimate," the publication says.

The incident caused such alarm at the British Embassy in Washington that diplomats raised the issue with the White House amid fears of possible hacking of Wiles' phone. It is emphasized that last year the FBI and the White House had already conducted a large-scale investigation after similar fraudulent mailings to senators and businessmen allegedly on behalf of representatives of the American administration.

The Telegraph reported on August 11 that Burnham had failed his first major challenge in office.
