Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Medinsky announced on August 16 that the new state line of textbooks on social studies for grades 9 and 10 is closer to real life.

"Since September 1, 2026, the state line of social studies has also been introduced into the school — grades 9 and 10, and from next year — 11. <...> We have preserved all the best that was. We updated the content, making it more lively: less theory, more connection with real life," says a message in the Maks messenger.

He clarified that Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, became the editor-in-chief of the textbooks.

In addition, Medinsky recalled that the duration of the course has been reduced from six to three years.

On August 9, the press service of the Russian Ministry of Education reported that the agency had approved an updated federal list of textbooks for primary, basic and secondary general education. The list includes, in particular, publications on the history of the regions reunited with Russia, as well as the textbook "Social Studies: basic level" for colleges and technical schools.
