Russian mixed martial artist Islam Makhachev defeated Irishman Ian Machado Garry and set a new record for the Absolute Fighting Championship (UFC) in the number of consecutive victories. The fight took place as part of the UFC 330 tournament in Philadelphia (USA) on August 16.

Makhachev, who owned the welterweight championship belt, defended it for the first time and won by unanimous decision.

Thanks to this result, the Russian surpassed the achievement of Brazilian Anderson Silva and became the owner of the UFC absolute record for the number of consecutive victories. Makhachev has now won 17 fights in a row.

The 34-year-old Russian athlete has won 29 victories and suffered one defeat in his professional career. Makhachev previously held the UFC lightweight championship belt.

In turn, for 28-year-old Gary, this defeat was the second in his professional career. He still has 17 victories in mixed martial arts.
