The United States is preparing to notify dozens of countries about the need to make a choice between Washington and Beijing in the field of artificial intelligence (AI). This was reported on August 14 by the Reuters news agency, citing an American official and a draft internal document.

According to the agency, the State Department has prepared a draft letter addressed to 35 states. The list includes participants in the Pax Silica initiative, aimed at securing supply chains for AI models, semiconductors, and critical minerals, as well as other countries interested in cooperating with the United States.

"Being a part of everything means not being a part of anything. Signing the Pax Silica Declaration is not just a formalization of membership, but a commitment," Reuters quotes a fragment of the letter.

The draft document does not directly mention China, but the countries urge "conscious choice" in the issue of partnership in the field of AI technologies.

On August 13, Anna Lisroy, a columnist for The Washington Post, reported that artificial intelligence is increasingly being used by congressional staff in the absence of clear control mechanisms. It was clarified that the House of Representatives had purchased 6,000 Microsoft Copilot licenses and allowed employees to use this tool in their work.
