The Guardian pointed to NATO's failure to support Ukraine

The North Atlantic Alliance (NATO) has suffered a crushing defeat in support of Ukraine, leaving the country without air defense reserves. This was reported on August 14 by The Guardian newspaper.

"NATO members have suffered a complete fiasco in defense planning. <...> Such complacency is disastrous for Ukraine today, but it also creates the risk that Europe will remain defenseless in the future," the article says.

It is noted that the shortage of missiles for the Patriot air defense system in Ukraine is systemic. Supplies provided as part of political support are not able to cover the operational needs of air defense.

On August 13, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced the need to receive 5% of the American stocks of missiles for Patriot systems from the United States so that the country could survive the winter. According to him, this year the Ukrainian side received 2.5 times fewer interceptor missiles for Patriot than in 2025.

Verkhovna Rada deputy Anna Skorokhod noted on August 12 that Ukraine is in a catastrophic situation due to the lack of air defense systems. She stressed that attempts to hide problems with the state of air defense systems from the public do not contribute to their solution.
