US President Donald Trump is considering several candidates for the post of White House press secretary after Caroline Leavitt's departure. Current and former administration officials, as well as representatives of the media sphere, are among the possible candidates. This was reported by the Politico newspaper on August 13, citing sources.

"Candidates from the administration, Trump supporters, and television are being discussed in Trump's inner circle, but there is no obvious successor yet," the text says.

According to the publication, among the discussed candidates are Monica Crowley, the head of the Trump protocol, Scott Jennings, a CNN television presenter, Jason Miller, a former press secretary for the Trump campaign, and Alina Habba, an ex-presidential adviser. Anna Kelly, one of Leavitt's deputies, and Katie Miller, a former administration official, are also among the candidates, but the latter's appointment is unlikely.

The interlocutors of the publication note that the decision on a new press secretary may not be made immediately, since the position is considered one of the key ones for the US president.

One of the main tasks of the new press secretary will be to work with journalists outside the cameras. According to Politico sources, Leavitt successfully combined appearances on television, interaction with the media and promoting the position of the president. In addition, the issue of the format of future White House briefings remains open. Under Leavitt, such events have become regular, and the administration has also changed its approach to the participation of various media outlets in the presidential press pool.

On August 12, Trump announced that Leavitt would leave his post at the end of August. He clarified that after that she would become one of his main "external advisers." In addition, the American leader noted that Leavitt had done a "phenomenal job" in her post.

The Daily Mail newspaper reported on August 13 that one of the possible reasons for Leavitt's departure from office could be her "extreme emotional burnout." The publication clarified that she had been considering the decision to leave for a long time.
