In Latvia, fighter jets shot down a drone that caused an air alert

The unmanned aerial vehicle, which caused an air alert in Latvia, was shot down by fighter jets. This was announced on August 14 by the press service of the national armed forces of the country.

"The threat in the airspace has passed. Allied fighters successfully shot down an unmanned aerial vehicle that entered the airspace," reads a post on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

Earlier, an emergency warning about the unmanned danger was announced for residents of Augshdaugava, Preylsky, Rezekne and Balva districts.

Latvian Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs announced on August 12 that the country had not purchased the necessary ammunition for previously acquired anti-drone systems. Kulbergs noted that Latvia calls itself a drone power, however, according to him, there is still no sufficient practical basis for this.
