In schools, it is necessary to allocate places so that elementary school students can store a change of shoes, gym uniforms, as well as folders with paints and textbooks. Vladislav Grib, Deputy Secretary of the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation, made such an initiative on August 14 to reduce the burden on elementary school students.

"Sometimes it's hard for me to lift my son's backpack, a junior: there are textbooks, notebooks, and other supplies. Plus, we also have a separate set of shoes and clothes for physical education. At the same time, I must say that children have different physical forms, and it is very difficult for many to wear all this every day to school and back. I believe that it is necessary to provide special places in schools for storing things that are not needed for homework," TASS quoted Grib as saying.

The Deputy Secretary of the OP noted that the heavy weight of the portfolio can negatively affect the health of children. According to Grib, most schools will be able to create small lockers.

On August 8, Russian Minister of Education Sergey Kravtsov announced that Russian schoolchildren will start studying according to the updated curriculum from September 1, changes in which are aimed at forming a unified educational space in the country. The Department has updated the content of academic subjects and extracurricular activities. From September 1, 2026, social studies will be studied in grades 9-11, while the number of history hours will increase.
