Brazil has announced a request from Europe to help establish relations with Russia

Western European countries are asking Brazil to help organize a dialogue with Russia. This was announced on August 12 by Celso Amorim, Chief Adviser to the President of Brazil on International Affairs, during a meeting of the parliamentary Commission on International Relations and National Defense (CREDN).

"I have personally been approached, in some cases by the president, in others by other officials, but I can speak, based on what I know, about the ambassadors and ministers of Western European countries who ask us for a dialogue with Russia, because, according to them, Brazil is one of the few countries, which conducts a dialogue with both the West and Russia," the Brazilian newspaper Toda Palavra quotes him as saying.

According to the adviser, Brazil adheres to a neutral position and advocates a multipolar world order that does not automatically involve joining individual political groups.

Amorim noted that this position allows Brazil to maintain broad diplomatic contacts and participate in international negotiations. He stressed that the country stands for expanding cooperation between states without interfering in internal affairs and while preserving national sovereignty.

On August 4, Russian President Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lulu da Silva. The parties discussed international issues and the situation around the conflict in Ukraine. During the conversation, the heads of state also reviewed the development of Russian-Brazilian relations.

Vladimir Dzhabarov, Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council's International Affairs Committee, said on June 19 that Lula da Silva maintains friendly relations with Russia, and his candidacy for the role of mediator in the Ukrainian negotiations is not bad.
