The popular science TV magazine "The GREAT ONES" is the most unusual and little-known stories about people, discoveries and decisions that changed the world. In each episode, host Mikhail Gorevoy invites the viewer on a journey into the past, where scientific discoveries, political intrigues, military tricks and risky experiments become part of a larger story. Through unexpected facts, reconstructions, and expert testimony, the TV magazine shows how the ideas and actions of great people continue to influence our lives centuries later.

In the first issue, viewers will find out:

– after which football match did the United States become afraid of Soviet submarines;

– how did the stolen mare change the fate of Russia;

– who turned medicine into the main fuel of the twentieth century;

– why did Napoleon declare himself a Muslim;

– how did borscht help Korolev send a man into space?

The broadcast is on Sundays, at 17:44.

The three—hour documentary "GREAT SCIENTISTS" from NMG DOC is eight stories about how the ideas of the past continue to change the present. Why do we buy things that we don't need? How did a man end up in space? What made new materials, modern medicines, and Arctic exploration technologies available? The answers to these questions begin with discoveries made by Russian scientists decades, and sometimes centuries ago.

The main characters of the film, created with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, are prominent Russian scientists Mikhail Lomonosov and Dmitry Mendeleev, Ilya Mechnikov and Ivan Pavlov, Nikolai Vavilov and Konstantin Tsiolkovsky, Sergei Korolev and Igor Kurchatov.
