WP reported 153 civilian deaths in Yemen in U.S. strikes in 2025

The US airstrikes in Yemen during the operation against the Houthis in 2025 resulted in the death of 153 civilians and the wounding of about 250 people. This was reported on August 11 by The Washington Post (WP), citing data from the Pentagon.

"As a result of the US airstrikes last year during the operation against militants in Yemen, 153 civilians were killed and about 250 were injured. <...> This is the first public recognition of the responsibility of the Ministry of Defense for the significant damage inflicted on the civilian population in this conflict," the publication says.

According to the Pentagon, civilians were probably injured in three attacks on 1,000 targets. At the same time, 15 more incidents are under consideration.

The Houthis' actions complicate the regional background, but do not prevent Iran from negotiating.

On July 23, US President Donald Trump said that the United States would hold Iran responsible in the event of new attacks by Yemeni Houthis from the Ansar Allah movement on ships in the Red Sea and would take military measures against Tehran and the movement itself. He recalled that about a year ago, Washington inflicted "very powerful blows" on the Houthis due to attacks on ships and the creation of obstacles to merchant shipping.

On March 15, 2025, Trump ordered his country's armed forces to launch military operations against the Houthis in Yemen. The American leader said that the Houthis are waging an "incessant campaign of piracy, violence and terrorism" directed against US and other countries' ships, as well as aircraft and drones.
