A utility worker told about the rescue of a girl during a flood in Dagestan
On August 11, Magomed Omarov, deputy head of a municipal institution in the Untsukulsky district of Dagestan, told Izvestia about the rescue of a girl who was swept away by a flood.
According to him, he and his colleagues went to check the condition of roads and infrastructure after heavy rains. During the inspection, they noticed a child who began to be swept away by a mudflow.
Omarov said that by the time he ran up to the girl, the child was in a frightened state. He also clarified that the water level was "knee-deep," but the strong current created danger.
"I picked her up, <... The current was so strong that I was knocked down with her, but we got out of the water onto the sidewalk. The girl was, of course, scared, but in general, I think her health is not in danger," the man said.
He added that the girl's mother ran next to the stream of water and tried to catch up with the child. According to him, the girl probably accidentally fell, after which she was carried away by water. The man noted that he did not stay at the scene for long after rescuing the child, as he had to return to work.
According to his estimate, the child was about seven years old. Omarov also said that this was not the first time he had to help people in the water. Several similar situations occurred while relaxing on the lake and the sea.
"I probably don't swim very well myself, but in such moments I just have to give my best," Omarov admitted.
The day before, an 11-year-old schoolboy was electrocuted in St. Petersburg while swimming on Krestovsky Island. People who tried to help the boy also received a discharge. One of the eyewitnesses was able to save the child with the help of a log: the man used it to get to the boy and pull him out of the water. According to the Izvestia source, the cause of the incident could be an electrical panel located on the dock. On August 11, RT editor-in-chief Margarita Simonyan decided to award the 23rd Tigran Keosayan Prize to the savior.
