South Africa mine collapse kills 14 illegal workers
At least 14 illegal workers have died in a mine collapse in northwestern South Africa. This was reported by the Reuters news agency on August 11.
"Search and rescue operations are underway to find an unknown number of people who may still be trapped at the scene near Rustenburg," the agency writes, citing Police Commissioner Arthur Peter Adams.
The collapse occurred when miners were mining platinum metals. According to Reuters, the injured miners are citizens of Lesotho, the nationality of the victims has not yet been established.
Geo TV channel reported on July 30 that nine people died in a mine collapse due to a methane explosion in Pakistan. According to the mine owner, 42 people were in the mine at the time of the accident, and all the miners trapped under the rubble were residents of Shangla County.
