On Easter Sunday, which is celebrated on August 29, believers turn to the Uncreated image of the Lord, or Ubrus, with prayers for forgiveness, salvation and help. On this day, the troparion and kontakion of the feast are read, two prayers, as well as magnifications dedicated to the veneration of the image of Christ. The dean of the Baltai district of the Saratov diocese, Priest Oleg Zhilyakov, told Izvestia about this.

According to the priest, in the troparion, believers worship the immaculate image of Christ and ask the Lord to forgive sins and free people from the "bondage of the enemy."

"The prayer text recalls the Savior's voluntary ascension to the cross for the salvation of mankind. The troparion ends with a thanksgiving address to Christ as the Savior of the world," Zhilyakov said.

The kontakion, as the priest explained, is dedicated to the veneration of the Uncreated image as evidence of the true incarnation of the Son of God.

"Knowing Your ineffable and Divine providence for people, the unimaginable Word of the Father, and having the image of Your true incarnation, not man-made, but written by the power of God and bringing victory, we honor him by kissing him," he quoted the text.

Two prayers are also recited on the holiday — "Lord, Generous and Merciful" and "Oh, Most Gracious Lord Jesus Christ, our God!" The first, the priest notes, contains a request to the Lord to hear prayer, to guide a person on the path of truth, to strengthen in honoring the holy name and to help those who trust in God. The second one is directly addressed to Jesus Christ and is connected with the gospel tradition about the origin of the image Made with Hands.

"It recalls the gospel legend about how the Savior washed his face with water, wiped it with a cloth, and miraculously depicted His face on it, after which the image was sent to Prince Abgar of Edessa to heal him from his illness," Zhilyakov added.

The prayer service ends with the glorification of the Savior. One of the variants says: "We magnify You, O Life-giving Christ, and we honor Your most pure and glorious imagination." Another greatness is dedicated to the Uncreated image as a testimony of salvation: "We magnify You, O Life-giving Christ, and we honor Your Holy image, by which you saved us from the work of the enemy."
