Colombian authorities have declared a national emergency due to the earthquake.
The Government of Colombia has declared a national emergency in connection with the devastating earthquake of magnitude 7.4. The corresponding decision was made by the President of the Republic Abelardo de la Espriella, reports El Pais.
According to the National Disaster Risk Management Office, the decision was unanimously supported following an emergency government meeting with the participation of the head of state and the Cabinet of Ministers.
According to the latest government data, at least 80 people have become victims of powerful aftershocks, and hundreds more residents in various regions of the country are reported injured and missing.
On August 10, a powerful earthquake occurred in Colombia, the magnitude of which, according to updated data from seismologists, was 7.4. Carolina Cordoba-Curi, Governor of the Choco Nubia Department, reported that there were victims and damage to buildings as a result of the earthquake.
Later it became known that 55 people died as a result of the earthquake. The largest number of victims was recorded in the Department of Risaralda (Colombia). The governor of the region, Juan Diego Patiño, confirmed the deaths of 40 people in the city of Pereira and in the territory of the department.
