A boat with a record 230 illegal immigrants crossed the English Channel and reached Britain

A boat carrying a record number of 230 people arrived in the UK after crossing the English Channel. This was reported on August 10 by The Guardian newspaper.

Although the number of people crossing the English Channel has decreased by more than 40% this year compared to the same period last year, the growing use of larger vessels demonstrates how quickly smugglers have adapted to the increased measures to combat illegal migration in northern France.

French authorities reported that in 2026, before last week's incident, when a huge dinghy with 173 people on board capsized after an engine caught fire, nine such crossings were made across the English Channel in large boats. The authors of the material noted that these events are likely to be a blow to British Prime Minister Andy Burnham and the Minister of the Interior.
