More than 1 million people evacuated in eastern China due to typhoon Dolphin

Chinese authorities have evacuated more than 1 million people in the east of the country due to the approach of typhoon Dolphin. This was reported on August 10 by The Guardian newspaper.

"A weather station in the center of Shanghai recorded almost 313 mm of precipitation in the 24 hours to 7 a.m. on Monday (02:00 GMT), which was the highest daily figure in more than 150 years of observations," the material says.

Local authorities maintained the orange danger level due to heavy rains and warned that "days of intense downpours could cause large-scale floods and landslides" until August 12. They urged people to stay at home during heavy rains.

Shopping malls, casinos and universities were closed in several megacities, but the disaster did not affect the interest of tourists in the region.

Euronews TV channel reported on August 9 that about 1,400 flights were canceled at two key airports in Shanghai amid the collapse of typhoon Dolphin. It was noted that the maximum wind speed near the center of the cyclone at the time of its landfall exceeded 150 km/h. As a result, 250 to 500 mm of precipitation may fall in some areas of central and eastern Zhejiang Province.
