- The Russian Ambassador spoke about the work with Pakistan on the launch of the first freight railway route.
Russia and Pakistan are working on a project to establish the first direct freight railway route between the two countries along the Moscow—Faisalabad and Moscow—Karachi routes in both directions. This was reported to Izvestia by the Russian Ambassador to Pakistan Albert Khorev.
"We are working with our Pakistani partners on a project to organize the first freight railway route between our countries along the Moscow—Faisalabad and Moscow—Karachi routes in both directions. The possibility of connecting the Belarusian side to the project is being explored," he said.
According to the diplomat, due to the aggravation of geopolitical tensions in the region in 2025 and early 2026, the project was repeatedly postponed.
"Currently, the parties are at the stage of finalizing a contract for the provision of services and the selection of companies interested in transporting goods from countries along the proposed train route," the ambassador noted.
On August 6, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin stated that Russia needs to consider creating a railway access to the Indian Ocean due to instability in the Bosphorus and Hormuz Straits. According to him, the development of such areas may become an additional transport option for the Russian Federation.
