The lawyer linked the accusations of Russian synchronized swimmers in plagiarism with the resentment of defeat

The accusation of the Spanish synchronized swimming team against the Russian athletes is legally incorrect, it could have been caused by emotions after the defeat. Sports lawyer Evgeny Morozov informed Izvestia about this on August 7.

"The elements can be repeated, and whoever performs these elements better, [he] scores more points accordingly. And it's probably possible to say that someone used someone else's element, but from a legal point of view it's incorrect," Morozov said.

He stressed that the implementation of similar elements does not contradict any rules and regulations of the competition. The lawyer compared synchronized swimming with football, noting that athletes can use the same positions and tactics on the field, as this is a common practice in sports.

At the same time, Morozov admitted that some mercenary individuals may claim plagiarism "to raise ratings." However, he recalled that the final score includes the complexity and technical execution of the elements, and added that Russia "performed these elements much better than the Spanish national team."

On August 5, the Russian synchronized swimming team won the acrobatic group program at the European Aquatics Championships in Paris. The Russian team scored 244.8221 points, ahead of the national teams of Spain and Italy. The team consisted of Maya Doroshko, Ekaterina Kossova, Elizaveta Minaeva, Valeria Plekhanova, Elena Shabanova, Evelina Simonova, Elizaveta Smirnova and Olga Tyutyunik.
