In July, a record was set for the import of cars into the Russian Federation

By the end of July 2026, almost 95 thousand passenger cars, both new and used, were imported to Russia. This is the maximum monthly result this year, the analytical agency Autostat reported on August 6.

The import of new passenger cars in the middle of summer amounted to 44.4 thousand units, which is 57% higher than in July last year. Most often, cars of the Chinese brand Changan were supplied to the country, and the Geely Cityray crossover turned out to be the leader among the models.

New passenger cars are most often imported from China, its share in the import structure was 73.6%. At the same time, analysts noted that not only local cars are imported from China, but also European brands of Chinese production, such as Audi, Skoda or Volkswagen. Kyrgyzstan (14.7%) and Japan (3.2%) were among the top three countries in terms of import destinations.

As for used cars, the import amounted to 50.5 thousand units (+7% compared to July last year). Japanese brands and models, Toyota and its Corolla model, are still the leaders in the import structure. Most used cars are imported from Japan, which accounted for 59.5% in July. The top three countries also included China (24%) and South Korea (7.6%).

Acceleration and deceleration: the car market reached a record high in July

Since the beginning of the year, more than 730 thousand new cars have been sold in Russia.

Earlier in the day, it was reported that in July, global brand models, excluding domestic, Chinese and Belarusian ones, accounted for 15% of all new passenger car sales in the country: 18.3 thousand units out of 122 thousand cars. As a result, the share of global brands returned to record levels.
