The Russian Foreign Ministry said there was no intention to recall the ambassador from Romania.

Russia will not recall the ambassador from Romania in response to a similar move by the country. This was announced on August 6 by Alexey Fadeev, Deputy Director of the Information and Press Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

"We see no reason to copy other people's theatrical gestures in any way. We do not plan to recall our ambassador from Bucharest for consultations," he said during a briefing.

The diplomat noted that Moscow rejects the claims made by Bucharest. According to Fadeev, in connection with the expulsion of the Russian diplomat, the Russian side will respond to this unfriendly step.

On July 27, the Romanian Foreign Ministry summoned the Russian Ambassador in Bucharest to the department's headquarters and notified one of the diplomatic mission's employees about the expulsion. The diplomat was declared persona non grata in the republic and had to leave the country within five days. The reason for the demarche was statements by the Romanian side about alleged violations of the country's airspace in the period from 24 to 26 July.
