Yampolskaya condemned unlicensed film screenings in Russian cinemas
Elena Yampolskaya, Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation, Chairman of the Presidential Council for the Implementation of state Policy in the field of support for the Russian language and the Languages of the Peoples of the Russian Federation, spoke out against unlicensed film screenings in Russian cinemas on August 6.
"As for all these unlicensed screenings, the so-called pre-screenings, I've always been against this business. <...> It's not always clear what will actually be shown there. One thing can be stated, and something completely different can be shown. That is, it is impossible to work like this," she said at a briefing.
Commenting on the situation around the postponement of the sessions of the film "Spider-Man: A New Day" due to the screening of the domestic film "The Last Hero. Kolobok," Yampolskaya stressed that she considers it important to form an interest among children and youth in Russian culture.
"Nevertheless, we must strive to ensure that new generations in our country have an idea of how rich our national and domestic culture is, how diverse it is, what kind of fairy tales we have, what wonderful characters we have," she said.
According to Yampolskaya, the quality of children's and youth films should be discussed with relevant agencies, the Cinema Foundation and experts. In addition, she recalled that Russian President Vladimir Putin actively supports children's cinema.
Yampolskaya also stated that she would not watch "Spider-Man" because she did not intend to pay for unlicensed screenings, but she was ready to watch the movie "Kolobok".
"No, thanks. I definitely refuse to watch Spider-Man, and I don't agree to any illegal screenings of films. I will definitely not give my money to the cashier for this. But I am ready to give with great joy for the domestic cinema," the adviser to the Russian leader summed up.
Alexey Voronkov, the head of the Cinema Owners Association, told Izvestia on July 13 that the organization stands for optimal conditions for promoting Russian cinema at the box office, this work includes careful planning of premieres to create a favorable environment. This is how he commented on the widespread reports that the premiere of the film "Spider-Man: A New Day" in Russia was postponed for the sake of the domestic film "The Last Hero. Kolobok".
