The share of global brands in the Russian car market has returned to record levels
In July, global brand models, excluding domestic, Chinese and Belarusian ones, accounted for 15% of all new passenger car sales in the Russian car market: 18.3 thousand units out of 122 thousand cars. As Sergey Tselikov, director of the Autostat analytical agency, said in his Telegram channel on August 6, the share of global brands returned to record levels.
The analyst recalled that the record share of this segment was recorded in February (15.9%), and then began to decline. In April-June, it was in the range of 12-14%, and the July growth again reversed the trend.
In the same period last year (January-July 2025), global brands accounted for only 6.5% of the market, which is more than two times less than it is now. As the expert noted, Russians' interest in alternative car supplies is not drying up, since not everyone wants to buy products from the Russian-Chinese automotive industry. The most popular cars that are unofficially supplied to Russia are models of Japanese (8.2% share), German (4.3%) and Korean (1.6%) brands.
The day before, it was reported that the import of used cars to Russia increased by 7% in July, and by 12% since the beginning of the year. In total, 50.5 thousand used passenger cars (older than three years) were imported to Russia in July, compared to 47.3 thousand in the middle of last summer. Imports in January—July reached 255.7 thousand vehicles, an increase of 12%.
