A secret task force has been formed in the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) of the United States to work on the Cuban issue. This was reported on August 6 by The New York Times (NYT), citing sources.

The new unit includes intelligence analysts, cyber operations experts, as well as recruitment and influence operations specialists. It is understood that the group will implement a campaign to put pressure on Havana and force the country to political and economic changes demanded by American leader Donald Trump. At the same time, in 1960, the CIA had already created a working group on Cuba.

"The mandate of the new task force is more limited: to create divisions among the Cuban political elite in the hope of putting pressure on Cubans to replace anti—American leaders with more practical ones who will be more amenable to Trump's demands," the article says.

American political scientist Malek Dudakov said on June 8 that the United States continues to use diplomatic and military-political levers of pressure on Cuba, which keeps tensions in the region.
