The expert spoke about the risks of running and swimming for joints
Alexey Shishkin, Associate Professor of the Department of Rehabilitation, Sports Medicine and Physical Education at Pirogov State Medical University, warned about the risks of swimming and running.
In conversation with the agency RuNews24.Ru On Tuesday, August 4, he noted that sports enthusiasts most often have two chronic problems — "swimmer's shoulder" (rotator cuff tendinopathy) and "runner's knee" (patellofemoral pain syndrome). According to him, modern recommendations no longer recommend complete rest, because without movement, muscles weaken and recovery slows down.
The expert explained that when swimming, the cause of pain is often weak muscles that stabilize the shoulder girdle. Instead of resting, he recommended performing special exercises to strengthen the muscles of the shoulder and chest, avoiding movement through pain.
Speaking about the "runner's knee," Shishkin noted that modern research calls the key muscles not the thigh muscles, but the muscles of the buttocks and cortex, strengthening which helps to cope with pain more effectively. He also stressed that orthoses, tapes and special insoles are needed only for specific biomechanical disorders, and operations are considered only if at least six months of competent rehabilitation have failed.
For prevention and recovery, the specialist advised not to give up sports completely, but to temporarily reduce the load, devote more time to exercises on the muscles of the core and buttocks, do not rely only on sneakers with enhanced cushioning and carefully monitor the nature of the pain. If it worsens and changes the technique of movements, he recommended to consult a rehabilitologist.
Instructor-methodologist Kirill Antonov on the same day in a conversation with Life.ru He said that physical activity helps prolong life and prevent many diseases. According to him, an adult needs 150-300 minutes of moderate physical activity or 75-150 minutes of intense training per week, notes 360.ru .
At the end of July, fitness specialist Anna Kravchenko said that regular cycling can be a comfortable part of a weight loss program. When cycling, the impact load on the joints is lower than when running and high-intensity training, writes RT.
At the same time, neurologist Viktor Shakhnovich, in an interview with NSN, said that crunching in the joints is the first sign of a lack of collagen in the body. He advised me to take a set of tests to maintain my health.
In July, orthopedic surgeon Andrei Litvinenko explained that injuries like a hip fracture are typical for older people. He explained that by old age, the hip joint is usually already very worn out, so the replacement allows you to avoid repeated surgery in the future.
