In Primorye, 18 people have died in reservoirs since the beginning of summer.

Since the beginning of summer, 18 people have drowned in reservoirs in Primorsky Krai. The regional Ministry for Civil Defense, Protection from Emergencies and Elimination of Consequences of Natural Disasters announced this on Tuesday, August 4.

"Despite the fact that there are fewer fine days this summer than last year, the death toll is already higher. According to operational data, 18 people were killed," said Ilya Malakhov, Deputy Minister for Emergency Situations.

According to the PrimaMedia news agency, the investigative authorities are initiating criminal cases for each death. Rescue posts have been reinforced in official bathing areas, and additional raids are underway. But most tragic cases occur in places prohibited for swimming.

The situation with children is of particular concern, the Ministry said. Their parents do not control their movements and release them to dangerous channels, quarries and reservoirs. However, tragedies also occur in the presence of adults, which "also indicates a lack of control on the part of elders."

On July 27, it was reported that six children had died in the reservoirs of Primorye since the beginning of summer. All the cases occurred on weekends, and in some cases there were adults nearby. However, in all cases, one way or another, the children were temporarily left unattended. During a meeting in the government, the Minister of Emergency Situations of Primorye announced the need to tighten legislation.

In total, since the beginning of summer, 25 incidents on the water have been recorded in the region, resulting in the deaths of 18 people. The main cause of accidents in minGOCS is called non-compliance with safety rules on the water.
