Audi has revealed its most economical model

Audi will introduce the new A2 e-tron electric car this fall, which will be the spiritual successor to the hatchback, which was produced from 1999 to 2005. It is stated that the A2 e-tron will become the most economical production model in Audi's history and will take the place of the entry-level electric car.

So, according to preliminary measurements of the WLTP cycle, the A2 e-tron's energy consumption is 12.8 kWh per 100 km. The company notes that it was possible to achieve this result due to a combination of calculated aerodynamics, an upgraded power plant and an optimized battery. The 190 hp A2 e-tron version with an optional efficiency package has an aerodynamic drag coefficient of 0.24, the best indicator among the company's compact models.

The Audi A2 e-tron received a streamlined body with air ducts in the front fenders, turbulence reduction elements in the wheel arches, and an active cooling system air intake that remains closed under normal conditions to reduce drag. The complex of aerodynamic improvements makes it possible to reduce energy consumption to 0.9 kWh per 100 km, which is especially important on the highway, since at speeds from 100 km / h air resistance forms more than half of the total energy consumption of the car, the company said.

The electric car is equipped with a traction lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery with a capacity of 61 kWh, which is designed for regular charging up to 100%. Another feature of the model will be the possibility of bidirectional charging: the electric car can be used as a power source for external devices.

On the same day, it was reported that Ford had abandoned the production of mass-produced budget cars in the United States in favor of more expensive and niche models. According to the head of the company, Jim Farley, the manufacturer intends to focus on cars that evoke emotional attachment among customers in order to become an "off-road Porsche."
