The stylist explained the return of skinny jeans to Russian fashion

Skinny jeans are gaining popularity in Russia again after several years of the dominance of voluminous silhouettes. However, we are not talking about a complete return to the fashion of the 2010s, but about rethinking narrowed models in a modern wardrobe. Anna Skorokhodova, stylist, accessories designer and founder of the by SKOROKHODOVA brand, told Izvestia about this on August 4.

"After several years of total oversizing, there was a natural need for a more structured silhouette. Now we are witnessing hyper-volume fatigue, and more accentuated forms are returning to fashion. An additional factor was the rethinking of aesthetics in the late 2000s and early 2010s by a new generation. Skinny jeans are no longer perceived as an outdated thing and are becoming one of the options for a modern wardrobe," said Skorokhodova.

At the same time, according to the stylist, it's too early to talk about the full return of classic skinny jeans in their previous form. Today, not only the most form—fitting models are gaining popularity, but also more versatile options - slim fit, straight jeans and models with a slight narrowing to the bottom.

"Extremely tight jeans that literally follow the shape of a leg are unlikely to become the only fashion norm again. Today, fashion is much more democratic: wide, straight and narrow models can exist at the same time," the expert explained.

Skorokhodova noted that the audience of skinny jeans remains wide. For many men, this silhouette has never left the wardrobe, as it was perceived as familiar and versatile. Skinny jeans are becoming a part of retro aesthetics for young people. At the same time, skinny jeans no longer claim to be the only main trend. They become a basic thing that can be combined with other directions.

The stylist advised not to create an image entirely in the aesthetics of previous years. According to her, the combination of skinny jeans with a fitted shirt, a short leather jacket and tight shoes can look like a literal repetition of the fashion of a decade ago. To make the image modern, it is better to combine skinny with voluminous things. For example, with wide jackets, loose jackets, straight-cut coats, relaxed shirts or large-knit sweaters.

In the new season, according to the expert, combinations of skinny jeans with voluminous bombers, loose jackets, trench coats and relaxed fit clothes are especially relevant.

In shoes, the stylist recommends avoiding models that are too narrow. Skinny girls look more modern with loafers, chunky boots, minimalist sneakers, classic shoes or sandals.

"Skinny jeans are becoming just the base today, not the main fashion statement of the image. It's like a white shirt — a thing with which you can create different stylistic solutions," said Skorokhodova.

According to the expert, skins will remain in wardrobes for a long time and will be perceived as a classic model that can be adapted to changing trends.

Stylist Kristina Palyutkina spoke about the main men's trends of 2026 on June 16. She noted that this year they will combine intelligence, geometry and practicality. One of the most popular trends will be the "nerd-chic" style, based on the image of intelligent negligence.
