Sobyanin praised the work of the Radiosurgery Center of the Sklifosovsky Research Institute

The Center for radiosurgery at the Sklifosovsky Institute has formed a full cycle of care for patients with brain diseases, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said on his channel in Maks.

Over the past 10 years, the center's specialists have performed more than 8,000 high-tech operations. Over 7.5 thousand patients received assistance, Sobyanin said. "Not only Muscovites receive high—tech care here, but also patients from different regions of our country," the head of the capital emphasized.

The Radiosurgery Center is the only Moscow healthcare unit with a Gamma Knife installation, Sobyanin noted. The unit allows the treatment of brain tumors, vascular pathologies and a number of functional diseases without open surgeries, incisions and anesthesia. The patient is hospitalized for one day, during the procedure he is conscious and immediately after treatment returns to normal life.

Doctors combine radiosurgery with traditional treatment methods, and the equipment for ultra-precise procedures is being updated, the mayor noted. A new building is currently being built at the Sklifosovsky Institute. After opening, the center will move there and receive a new Cyber Knife installation. If the Gamma Knife is used only for the treatment of intracranial formations, then the Cyber Knife affects the pathologies of the entire central nervous system. This will expand the possibilities of high-tech medical care and increase its accessibility for Muscovites, Sobyanin said.

The development of high-tech areas such as radiosurgery corresponds to the objectives of the national project "Long and active Life," stressed the Mayor of Moscow. The project is aimed at introducing modern medical solutions and improving the effectiveness of treatment.
