Russians go on an average of 18 dates a year, and young people under the age of 35 are the most active in making new acquaintances. This was confirmed on August 4 by data from a joint survey of the SimpleWine federal network, part of the Simple Group, and the Twinby dating service.

The most popular dating format was a walk in the fresh air — 37% of respondents choose it. Cafes and coffee shops are in second place (32%), while cinemas, theaters or exhibitions are in third (22%). One in five spends time at home (21%) or in a restaurant (20%). Meetings are much less likely to take place in a more active format, such as at an ice rink, bowling alley, or quests (10%).

Men most often consider constant use of the phone and ignoring the interlocutor to be an alarming signal (36%), boasting and the discrepancy between photos and reality (28% each), as well as complaints about life (25%). Aggression or swagger after alcohol (34%), violation of personal boundaries (33%) and constant complaining (30%) are the most critical for women.

The survey showed that Russians read alarm signals differently when they get to know each other. So, men most often pay attention to constant phone use and ignoring (36%), boasting and discrepancies between photos and real appearance (28% each response), as well as complaints about life (25%). For women, aggression and swagger after drinking alcohol were the most critical (34%), violation of personal boundaries (33%) and, like for men, constant complaints about life circumstances (30%).

According to the study, alcohol remains more of an addition to a date than its mandatory attribute. 55% of Russians admitted that they use it at romantic meetings occasionally or on special occasions. Less than a quarter drink often or always. Interestingly, this behavior is more typical for men (29% versus 19% for women).

According to respondents, alcohol mainly helps them to relieve anxiety (34%) or creates a romantic atmosphere (31%). Some of the respondents may drink to the company or to make it easier to start a dialogue (25% each answer). Some people just like the taste of certain drinks (20%). One in four (25%) looks at drinking drinks with a degree negatively at the first meeting, and 38% calmly perceive such a choice on the part of a partner. Another 17% believe that everything depends on the amount of alcohol consumed, or they treat it positively because it helps to relax. The latter response is noticeably more common among men (23% versus 12% for women).

Most Russians adhere to moderation during a date. Women most often limit themselves to one glass (45%), while men take two or three drinks (43%). Another 31% of men and 23% of women believe that the ability to control their behavior is more important than the amount of alcohol consumed. As for specific preferences, sparkling wine has become the most popular drink among Russians on dates — 35% of men and 44% of women order it. Cocktails came in second place with 33% and 36%, respectively. This position is also shared among men by beer or cider (33%). And quiet wine closes the top 3 among representatives of both sexes - it is preferred by 29% of men and 33% of women.

Natalia Krasilnikova, PR director of the Mamba online dating service, told Izvestia on April 20 that a sharp decrease in interest in correspondence at the start of dating is often due not to a lack of sympathy, but to the wrong choice of topics and the presentation of the dialogue. The expert stressed that even neutral questions can spoil the impression if they sound like a series of checks. When the dialogue turns into a series of clarifications about work, income, or intentions, the interlocutor feels like an interrogation rather than a live conversation.
