Hongqi has set a new world record for battery charging speed for electric vehicles. During tests conducted with CNET, the prototype battery charged from 10% to 70% in 3 minutes 41 seconds, and to 97% in 8 minutes 3 seconds at a temperature of +25 degrees. This is stated in the message of the representative office of the Chinese brand, which was received by Izvestia on August 4.
The charging time has been reduced by more than a minute, which surpasses the characteristics of its closest competitors, the company said. According to the automaker, the 12C (peak charge ratio) technology developed by Hongqi engineers helped achieve this result. It is based on a new generation of highly efficient anode and a low-energy desolvation electrolyte, which reduce the barrier to the movement of lithium ions.
The use of a composite carbon coating and modification of volumetric alloying made it possible to reduce internal resistance by 15% compared to analogues, increasing the efficiency of charge transfer and response speed, the company noted. In addition, the technology provides for the use of a liquid cooling system with uniform temperature distribution. It maintains the temperature difference inside the entire unit within +3 degrees.
The exact timing of the new battery on production models has not yet been announced. According to Hongqi, it is expected that the introduction of ultra-fast charging batteries will eliminate driver's anxiety about power reserve and make electric vehicles more convenient for everyday life and long-distance travel.
As the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade reported the day before, sales of electric cars in the country increased by 15.3% in seven months and reached 7,025 units. The share of electric vehicles manufactured in the Russian Federation was 45.8% compared to 27.3% a year ago.
