Defender Amir Khanov, a graduate of the Ufa hockey club Salavat Yulaev, died at the age of 19. This was reported on August 4 by the RIA Novosti news agency.

In the 2022/23 season, the athlete became the most productive defensive player of the Ufa team among the players born in 2007 at the Russian championship for the Volga region teams. He scored 25 points (5+20) in 43 games.

The tragedy, according to local media, happened last week. According to Sport-Express, according to the young man's father, Khanov became ill during a clay modeling workshop, where he came with a girl. He lost consciousness and then died.

The hockey player's agent, Valery Zatsepin, said that Khanov had no health problems. He regularly underwent all the required medical examinations for team members.

"He took it last year and in February. Not a single deviation was found, he was allowed to compete. And now he was training and preparing for the season. What happened shocked everyone," TASS quoted him as saying.

Zatsepin added that the preliminary cause of death, according to Khanov's father, is considered to be a suddenly detached blood clot. The hockey player died on Thursday, July 30, and the very next day, on Friday, July 31, he was buried.
