A plane with two people on board disappeared in the Bodaibinsky district of the Irkutsk region. This was announced by the Governor of the Irkutsk region Igor Kobzev.

"At the appointed time, the Cessna 182 aircraft, which was monitoring the forest fire situation in the Bodaibinsky district, did not get in touch and did not return to the departure point," he wrote on his Telegram channel.

Kobzev said that there were two people on board the aircraft — an observer pilot and the aircraft commander. He noted that the plane was supposed to return at 20:00 (15:00 Moscow time) to the village of Mama, from where he flew out on patrol in the afternoon.

According to him, the crew examined the fire in the Bodaibo forestry, and then flew away towards the village of Bodaibo. The coordinates of the aircraft stopped being recorded at 13:58 (8:48 Moscow time).

The head of the region added that in the near future, a plane will be sent from Yakutia to search. He stressed that two helicopters would be involved in the search in the morning.

A source told Izvestia that the plane may have hit a thunderstorm front, and the crew could have turned off the tracker themselves.
