Russian oil imports to India reached a record high in July

Russian oil imports to India rose to 2.8 million barrels per day in July, which was a record high since 2022. This was reported by The Times of India on August 3.

"In July, crude oil imports from Russia to India rose to a record 2.8 million barrels per day, accounting for more than half of the country's total purchases," the publication says.

According to the publication, the share of Russian oil in India's total imports has reached 55.5%. Compared to June, shipments increased from 2.7 million to 2.8 million barrels per day. According to analyst Nikhil Dubey, the growth was facilitated by the reliability of Russian supplies amid the unstable situation on key sea routes, as well as an increase in export volumes from Russia.

Overall, India imported just over 5 million barrels of oil per day in July, which is higher than in June.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar met in Manila on July 22 and agreed to continue dialogue at all levels. Prior to that, Jaishankar noted on June 11 that Russia had established itself as a reliable supplier of oil to India. According to him, when purchasing oil, New Delhi focuses primarily on the availability of raw materials and their cost.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov added on June 24 that Russia and India have a particularly privileged partnership and Moscow attaches great importance to the further development of relations. He stressed that the countries cooperate within the framework of international organizations.
