Roszdravnadzor to check Azov hospital after reports of girl's HIV infection

Roszdravnadzor in the Rostov region began checking the city hospital of Azov after reports of a possible infection of a schoolgirl with HIV and hepatitis C during treatment. This was announced on August 3 in the press service of the department.

Earlier, the media reported that the girl could have contracted infections after being admitted to the Azov hospital for the treatment of intestinal infection.

"The territorial body of Roszdravnadzor in the Rostov region is checking the circumstances of the incident," the press service wrote on the VKontakte social network.

According to the commission, the source of infection could be a patient who was in the same room with a child. A molecular genetic analysis conducted at the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor confirmed the high degree of kinship of the virus strains.

The family found out about the disease a year and a half later during a preoperative examination. After the mother contacted the police, a criminal case was opened, but no charges have been filed yet.

An inspection of the infectious diseases department revealed violations of sanitary and epidemiological requirements. In particular, the commission found that disposable catheter plugs were reused after treatment, and the purchase of sterile consumables was not carried out in July 2024.

In addition, the department lacked the necessary accounting logs for consumables, there were no rapid HIV tests, and the provision of nurses was less than 50%. The documentation also revealed a rejection of an HIV test, which, according to the girl's mother, she did not sign.

We are talking about evidence of the absence of tuberculosis, HIV, hepatitis and mental disorders.

The mother of one of the babies who died in January at Novokuznetsk maternity hospital No. 1, Arina Bedareva, told Izvestia on January 13 that her child died of infection after birth. The woman in labor also reported serious violations in the postpartum department. She clarified that the nurses performed injections without gloves, did not always give out prescribed medications and ignored the patients' requests for help.
