Financiers talked about the impact of the digital ruble on the Russian economy
The widespread introduction of the digital ruble in the future will lead to a reduction in the amount of cash in circulation and a reduction in costs for settlements between companies. Financial experts told RIA Novosti about this on August 3.
The digital ruble will become the third form of national currency, along with cash and non—cash. Starting from September 1, 2026, all systemically important banks and organizations recognized as key in the payment services market are required to connect to the platform.
"Today, many financial processes still require additional stages of coordination - the digital ruble is able to make some of these operations faster and easier," explained financial expert Valentina Drofa.
Denis Popov, Head of Banking and Financial Market Analysis at PSB, noted that with the development of infrastructure, the popularity of the digital ruble will grow, and the main effect will manifest itself in the medium and long term, including through increased transparency of budget expenditures and the development of cross—border payments.
Bustard added that it will be possible to use the digital ruble through regular banking applications. In her opinion, businesses will be the first to benefit: the low cost of transactions will be especially attractive for companies with large non-cash turnover. At the same time, she warned, it will take time for the full effect.
In turn, Angela Khanachevskaya, director of the analytical department of the Association of Russian Banks, stressed that competition between banks would push them to create more convenient and affordable payment services based on the new currency.
Dmitry Dubynin, CEO of the National Payment Card System, said on July 16 that the key value of the digital ruble is the ability to customize payments for specific tasks, including automatic payment for housing and communal services, performing operations under specified conditions, and using smart contracts. According to Dubynin, digital currency will become another way to make payments and transfers along with bank cards and payment cards, and users will be able to choose the most suitable option for them.
