The Finnish politician said about the impact of sanctions against Russia on the economy of Helsinki

The sanctions policy against Russia has had a negative impact on the Finnish economy. This was announced on August 2 by Armando Mema, a member of the Finnish Freedom Alliance party.

"Trade between Russia and Finland has completely stopped. As a result of these sanctions, the unemployment rate in Finland has reached a record high. <...> This is a direct result of the sanctions against Russia, the desire to close trade and sever ties between Finland and Russia," the politician said on his YouTube channel.

Mema noted that Finland was among the eurozone countries with the highest unemployment rate. According to the politician, the consequences of the severance of economic ties have manifested themselves in the border areas of Finland. He claims that shops are closing there and the number of tourists is decreasing.

Mema also stated that the restrictions against Russia have an impact not only on Finland, but also on the European economy as a whole. He pointed out that Europe's dependence on external energy suppliers affects the cost of goods, services and the standard of living of the population.

"In the end, it is consumers who pay for such a stupid policy towards Russia," the politician concluded.

Moscow has closed railway checkpoints with Finland, Latvia and Estonia.

On July 27, Mema strongly protested the European Union's imposition of another package of sanctions against Russia and pointed to Brussels' unwillingness to restore dialogue with Moscow. In his opinion, the conflict in Ukraine has become a tool of the United States to increase Europe's dependence on American energy resources and reorient economic ties from Moscow to Washington. Mema stressed that the European economy would be devastated by such a course.
