Israel has announced a court ban on the use of crocodiles to guard prisons.

The Jerusalem District Court has banned Israeli Minister of National Security Itamar Ben-Gvir from using crocodiles to guard prisons where convicted terrorists are being held. This was reported on August 2 by the Jerusalem Post newspaper.

"On Sunday, the Jerusalem District Court banned Ben-Gvir from using crocodiles to hold terrorists in prisons," the publication says.

It is clarified that the court order was issued after an appeal from the animal rights organization Let the Animals Live, which opposed such an initiative.

According to the newspaper, Ben-Gvir criticized the court's ruling, saying that it indicates the support of terrorists from the legal system and hinders the implementation of steps aimed at deterring them.

"We know that the terrorists are afraid of the appearance of crocodiles, but today the court came to their aid," the newspaper quoted him as saying.

The Knesset elections will be held on October 27, and the prime minister's support continues to decline.

The Heute newspaper reported on July 17 that the Israeli Minister of National Security had proposed involving Nile crocodiles in prison security in order to make escapes more difficult and save on security personnel costs. It was noted that in order to implement the plan, the Israeli Ministry of the Environment has changed the legal status of reptiles.
