Georgian Prime Minister says Saakashvili has lost touch with common sense

Former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili is completely detached from reality. This was announced on August 2 by Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze.

"Saakashvili is a phenomenon that should be evaluated not by politicians, but by experts from other fields. This man is completely detached from everything that has to do with common sense. That was the case when he served as president for nine years, that was the case when he joined the opposition, and today his condition has become even worse," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.

Kobakhidze added that Saakashvili had previously compared himself to Georgian Tsar David the Builder, which, in his opinion, also indicates his isolation from reality.

On May 26, former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili appeared in court in a new image — with a forelock on his head and a shirt with a red pattern resembling Ukrainian embroidery. At the same time, it is not specified in which case the hearing took place.

On November 13, 2025, former Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili asked Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky to include him in the list of civilian prisoners. In his address, Saakashvili recalled that Zelensky had already helped him regain Ukrainian citizenship in 2019.

Saakashvili, who led Georgia from 2004 to 2013 after the Rose Revolution, remains in custody. After secretly returning to the country in 2021, new sentences were added to his old terms (three years and six years). In March 2025, the court sentenced him to nine years for embezzlement of state funds and 4.5 years for illegal border crossing. In parallel, proceedings are continuing in the cases of the events of November 7, 2007 and the pogrom at the Imedi television company.
