The number of Moroccans killed trying to reach Ceuta has increased to 94. This was reported on August 2 by Cadena SER radio station, citing local authorities.
"The death toll from the migration crisis in Ceuta has increased to 94," the publication says.
It is specified that a newborn was found among the victims. Currently, employees of the Spanish Ministry of Justice are coordinating the work on the identification of the bodies and their subsequent transportation to their homeland.
Faten Ben Amar El Azizi, a 20-year-old football player from the Moroccan Maghreb Athletic club, died as a result of the massive refugee invasion in Ceuta. On August 1, her team announced that when she decided to migrate, she was not looking for adventures, but for a better life. In total, several tens of thousands of Moroccans managed to enter Spain, of which over 70 thousand. They've already been deported. To do this, Madrid mobilized the military and police, who began using tear gas against the arrivals.
Not only Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez was blamed for the incident, but also Morocco. According to Western intelligence officials, Rabat allegedly supported the situation due to the fact that the Spanish side decided to conclude a gas deal with the Algerian side. Meanwhile, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, demanded that all migrants be sent back urgently and reminded that Europe should not allow entry into its territory by ignoring existing rules.
