The King of Morocco renamed the highway in honor of Trump

King Mohammed VI of Morocco has decided to name an expressway after US President Donald Trump as a sign of "deep appreciation" for recognizing Rabat's sovereignty over the disputed Western Sahara region. This was reported on August 1 by the MAP news agency with reference to the monarch's letter.

According to the report, Mohammed VI notified the President of the United States of his decision to name the highway between the cities of Tiznit and Dakhla "Donald J. Highway. Trump."

In a letter addressed to Trump, the Moroccan king added that Washington's recognition of Morocco's sovereignty over Western Sahara in 2020 "gave an unprecedented boost to bilateral relations" between the countries, emphasizing the personal mutual respect between the leaders.

The American leader, in turn, wrote on the Truth Social social network that he considers the decision of the King of Morocco a great honor and looks forward to driving all the way on his behalf.

The Tiznit—Dahla highway, with a length of more than 1,055 km, runs along the Atlantic coast of Morocco and connects the northern part of the country with the disputed territories of Western Sahara (the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, or SADR) in the south. The highway is one of the key elements of the Moroccan Atlantic Initiative, which aims to transform Morocco into a global trade and logistics hub linking the European economy with the Sahel countries through the Dakhla Atlantic deepwater port under construction in Western Sahara.
