The STV film company has filed copyright lawsuits for 7.5 million rubles since the beginning of the year.

The STV film company, which owns the rights to films such as "Brother", "Brother 2" and "Blind Man's Buff", has filed 100 intellectual property lawsuits totaling about 7.5 million rubles since the beginning of 2026. This was reported on August 2 by RIA Novosti with reference to the materials of the arbitration courts.

It is alleged that the claims were sent to the arbitration courts of Moscow and the Moscow region, St. Petersburg, Krasnodar and Altai Territories, Saratov region and other regions. The company is demanding compensation for infringement of the exclusive rights to the works and characters.

The defendants in the cases were individual entrepreneurs and small companies. The average amount of claims per claim ranges from several tens to several hundred thousand rubles.

The largest lawsuit, according to the agency, was related to the use of images from the films "Brother" and "Brother 2" on clothes sold through the marketplace. Initially, STV demanded to recover 405.3 thousand rubles from the entrepreneur, and then increased the amount of claims to 605.5 thousand rubles. The court partially satisfied the claim and decided to recover 228.3 thousand rubles.

Some of the applications submitted by the company are currently under consideration, and some have been fully or partially satisfied. Also, a number of lawsuits were returned at the request of the company or the court, or were left without motion.

The STV film Company is one of the largest Russian film producers. It was created in 1992, one of its founders is the legendary director Alexey Balabanov. STV was engaged in the production of the dilogy "Brother", the films "War", "Sisters", "Blind Man's Buff", "Cargo 200" and many others. Together with the Melnitsa studio, the company also creates animation projects, including a series of cartoons about the "Three Heroes" and "Ivan Tsarevich and the Gray Wolf."

A monument to Balabanov was unveiled in Yekaterinburg on July 16. Hundreds of fans, as well as colleagues and relatives of the director came to the ceremony. According to the organizers, the image of the monument has been forming for more than a year: sculptors from all over the country submitted dozens of sketches, but the final decision was made with the participation of Balabanov's family and friends. During the unveiling of the monument, Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Medinsky said that the portrait of the director appeared in a new social studies textbook for the 10th grade.
