US President Donald Trump has criticized Prosecutor Jeanine Pirro's decision to drop charges of vandalism and damage to the Reflecting Pond in Washington from former Olympian David Hearn. He posted the corresponding post on the Truth Social social network on August 1.
"I do not know what she was thinking. For me, it was pure vandalism," Trump wrote.
The President acknowledged that "there could be some difficulties with the contractor" when repairing the reservoir, but said that vandalism was the main cause of the damage.
On July 31, the US Department of Justice stated that the blooming of the Mirror Pond was caused not by an act of vandalism, but by poor-quality work of the contractor during the reconstruction. In April, Trump ordered the pond to be repaired, replacing its coating with the "blue color of the US flag." However, a few days after the work was completed, the water turned green and the blue coating peeled off.
