The ex-ambassador of Britain declared the disappearance of freedom of speech in the country

Freedom of speech has virtually disappeared in the UK, and the number of topics whose public discussion can lead to criminal prosecution continues to increase. This opinion was expressed on August 2 by the former British Ambassador to Uzbekistan (2002-2004), Scottish political activist Craig Murray.

"I think there is almost no freedom of speech left in the UK. The list of things that cannot be said without the risk of ending up in prison is getting longer and longer," Murray said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

The former diplomat stressed that the British parliament is considering a bill on state security, which would criminalize receiving information from countries recognized as "hostile" by the British authorities.

According to Murray, Russia has already been designated as such a state in the document. He stated that after its adoption, it may become illegal to receive information from Russian government agencies. According to the ex-ambassador, the penalty for violating these norms is up to 14 years in prison.

Murray also announced the arrests of participants in rallies in support of Palestine in the UK. He added that he had come across examples of detentions of acquaintances in different countries and expressed concern about the situation with freedom of expression.
