It is impossible to replace the fine imposed on Russian blogger Lerchek (real name Valery Chekalin) with imprisonment, since it is not the main one, but an additional punishment. This was announced on August 1 by the defendant's lawyer Konstantin Tretyakov.

"There is no question of replacing Valeria's fine with actual imprisonment, since the fine was imposed as an additional punishment, not the main one," he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

Tretyakov clarified that bailiffs will be able to collect the amount expected from his client as a regular debt. In this case, as he pointed out, it will be about art. 32 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Malicious evasion of payment of a fine") PEC OF the Russian Federation.

The day before, Lercek was sentenced to five years of probation and fined 765 million rubles. The Izvestia source clarified that the person involved in the criminal case on the withdrawal of over 250 million rubles to the United Arab Emirates on forged documents has not yet made a decision on a possible appeal of the verdict.

The criminal case against Chekalina was resumed on July 24. The first hearing was held on the 30th of the same month. The debate of the parties took place on July 31. In both cases, Lercek was accompanied by her lover, dancer Luis Squicciarini, in addition to the lawyers. All reviews are conducted behind closed doors. As part of the latter, when the defendant briefly left the courthouse, she refused to comment to journalists, with whom she tried not even to make eye contact.
