About 70,000 illegal migrants returned to Morocco from Ceuta

Almost 70,000 illegal migrants from Morocco who had previously arrived in the Spanish exclave of Ceuta have returned to their homeland. This was reported by the EFE news agency on August 1.

"According to estimates by the State Security Forces, about 69.5 thousand migrants have left Ceuta for Morocco in the last 30 hours," the article says.

Police sources told the agency that this figure could include migrants who arrived in the exclave a few days before the mass influx.

The countries of the union have already started talking about suspending Schengen with Madrid after the invasion of refugees into the Spanish exclave.

The invasion of refugees was recorded in Spain a day earlier after the country decided to suspend the operation of the only existing border crossing in the city of Melilla in northern Africa. More than 60,000 illegal immigrants were able to reach Ceuta, which prompted Madrid to mobilize the military and police, who began using tear gas against the arrivals.

The situation has seriously worried Europe. For example, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, demanded the immediate expulsion of migrants and called the incident dangerous. Meanwhile, Italy has suspended the Schengen Agreement with Spain, and France has increased security at its border.
