Politico has learned about the US plans to relinquish leadership in the Ukraine Assistance Group

The United States may withdraw from its role as the leading country in the Security Assistance Group for Ukraine (GSU). This was reported by the Politico newspaper on July 31, citing sources.

"The Pentagon is relinquishing leadership of the US—led NATO command in Germany coordinating military assistance to Ukraine, which is the latest sign of a broader American withdrawal from its closest allies," the publication says.

It is specified that the coordination functions of the GSU are planned to be transferred to another NATO member. According to the publication, the US refusal to lead this program shows a change in its role in supporting Ukraine and relations with Europe.

Possible reshuffles in the GSU raise concerns due to the risk of slowing down the supply of weapons, the Ukrainian official said in an interview with the newspaper. He stated that American intelligence and transportation capabilities remain indispensable.
